Job Description:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and monitoring core financial operations to ensure the accurate and timely production of financial records and reports. This position supports the financial health of the organization by overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, and procurement. The Staff Accountant also plays a key role in benefits administration and collaborates with leadership to guide financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily operations within the Finance Department, ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial data.
• Manage the full accounts receivable and accounts payable cycle.
• Coordinate and monitor the budgeting process, including obtaining departmental feedback and preparing reports.
• Administer payroll, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Oversee procurement processes and related documentation.
• Prepare, enter, and ensure timely payment of invoices.
• Generate and present regular monthly financial reports, including:
o Budget vs. Actual Expenditures by department
o Monthly income and receipt summaries
o Purchase order status updates
• Administer employee benefits and insurance programs, including health and property insurance.
• Stay informed about new trends, laws, and regulations that may impact financial operations or benefits.
• Present financial data clearly to stakeholders, including leadership teams and governing bodies.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting or financial management experience required.
• Experience in municipal government is a plus.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with financial software systems such as QuickBooks or other accounting platforms.
Knowledge & Abilities:
• Solid understanding of general accounting principles and best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially when conveying financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

• Occasional walking, moving, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
