Job Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s accounting operations, financial
reporting, and project accounting activities within a construction environment. This role ensures the
accuracy of financial data, assists with month-end close processes, and supports compliance with
accounting standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
Maintain and analyze job cost accounting, project budgets, and cost tracking
Prepare and monitor work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition reporting
Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies
Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis for construction projects and
operational activities
Collaborate with project managers and operational teams to review project performance,
contract status, and cost variances
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company procedures
Support external audits, tax preparation, and other compliance-related reporting requirements
Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditure tracking
Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased operational efficiency
Mentor or assist junior accounting staff as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing and percentage-
of-completion accounting
Experience preparing WIP schedules and project-based financial reporting
Knowledge of GAAP and internal control practices
Experience with ERP or construction accounting software systems
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication and collaboration skills across accounting and operations teams
CPA designation or progress toward certification is preferred but not required
