Job Description:
The HUD Accountant oversees financial operations for HUD-funded and housing projects, ensuring compliance and accuracy across all financial reporting. This role involves managing administrative files, supporting year-end financial data preparation, and facilitating budget preparation in collaboration with executive leadership. The HUD Accountant will handle key financial tasks such as bank reconciliations, subsidy billing, and audit preparation to support financial transparency and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
• File Management:
o Maintain detailed administrative files for HUD and housing projects, including contracts, legal documents, and inventory.
• HUD Reporting:
o Gather and compile information for HUD reports, ensuring all submissions meet contractual requirements.
• End-of-Year Financials:
o Process year-end financial data and submit required electronic transmissions for HUD projects.
• Budget Preparation:
o Work with the executive director of HUD communities to prepare and submit annual budgets for HUD properties.
• Bookkeeping & Reconciliations:
o Oversee bookkeeping systems, review monthly reports, and perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
o Post accounts receivable entries and process payments as needed.
• Subsidy Billing & Asset Management:
o Monitor payments for monthly subsidy billings and update the general ledger.
o Maintain a monthly inventory of HUD fixed assets, including buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
• Audit & Compliance Support:
o Prepare for yearly financial audits by reconciling and documenting balance sheet accounts.
o Process REAC submissions and handle property tax exemption requests.
Qualifications
• Education & Experience:
o Bachelor’s degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounts receivable or relevant accounting experience.
o 5–10 years of accounting experience, ideally within Sage Intacct or One Site programs.
o Knowledge of standard accounting practices, including office procedures, business letters, and forms.
• Skills:
o Proficient in computer use, typing, and 10-key by touch.
o Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and collaborative mindset.
• Licenses & Certifications:
o Successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
o Health clearance or official college transcripts, with current TB clearance if applicable.
