The Lead Financial Specialist is responsible for preparing and reviewing various areas of  financial accounting including billed/unbilled revenue, payroll distribution, stocks, debt, interest, insurance, intercompany billings, and service company allocations, and ensures the accounting principles prescribed by the Company and various regulatory agencies are accurately applied.

This position reports to the Manager, General Accounting and will have frequent contact with the Assistant Corporate Controller.

Key responsibilities include:

• Review subsidiary financial closing transactions and related reports.

• Review, analyze and interpret complex accounting, financial and statistical data.

• Proactively and independently research, report and propose Company policy on financial and reporting matters, including monitoring the activities of financial and regulatory reporting and accounting standard setting agencies.

• Review rate calculations (e.g., regulatory mechanisms), prepare associated testimony and filings, and prepare financial analysis in support of regulatory filings.

• Review external annual and quarterly regulatory filings with the SEC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and State Public Service Commissions.

• Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, procedures and controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.
  • CPA also required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of accounting experience with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, standards and methods required.
  • Required reporting experience (e.g. SEC and FERC) preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify, analyze and research financial issues, strong oral communication and writing skills, demonstrated decision-making skills and ability to work independently, working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Expected to perform core responsibilities and monitor risks with a high degree of autonomy.
  • May serve on or lead cross-functional teams within the department and organization.
  • May prepare and deliver department presentations. Interact well with all levels of the organization including senior leadership.
  • Demonstrate technical subject matter expertise and/or overall business acumen.
