Sr. Cost Accountant

Prepare and direct the implementation of cost accounting methods and activities using LEAN (value stream) methodology. Oversee the cost control systems, manage and interpret costs audits, and prepare cost accounting reports for presentation to top management. Utilize appropriate cost and inventory accounting methods to ensure accurate product costing. Prepare the monthly reconciliation of fixed assets, as well as capital budget tracking, real estate/personal property tax review and other related responsibilities.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Maintain and improve standard cost systems, policies, procedures and methodology to (a) ensure timely and accurate reporting of inventory and cost of goods sold, and (b) to advance the use of cost systems as an analytical tool for improved decision-making.
Maintain, process transactions and improve fixed asset tracking systems, including project tracking versus capital budgets.
Analyze and monitor inventory/cost records to determine area of opportunity to reduce costs and improve the profitability of the company.
Utilize Prophix and other BI tools to analyze gross margin results on a monthly basis.
Propose, and if approved, assist in the building of Prophix models to improve accuracy of budgeting and forecasting.
Project cost data and depreciation projections for preparation of operating budgets.
Reconcile perpetual inventory and fixed assets to general ledger control accounts, and prepare related schedules for bank and financial reporting purposes.
Complete monthly financial closing process for all cost accounting related entries within the closing schedule timeline.
Perform monthly reconciliation of accrued liabilities to the general ledger.
Provide and assist in cost accounting functions during audit.
Develop pricing models to help establish list prices, prepare budgets, prepare target costing models, and prepare inventory statements using LEAN concepts.
Prepare LEAN accounting reports and establish performance measurement as directed by management.
Prepare monthly value stream profit & loss statements for the twelve value streams to include attending meetings and understanding improvements being implemented.
Monitor periodic cost and inventory cycle count audits to insure the accuracy of cost and inventory records.
Lead monthly negative (and low margin) product meetings and proactively follow-up on action items through resolution.
Reporting, review and tracking of real estate and personal property tax records, as well as other related governmental filings.
Assume other projects and assignments as directed by management.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires broad knowledge of a discipline equivalent to a complete college or university education.
Requires a minimum of three years or more sufficient experience to perform the requirements of the position.
